JK Rowling purchases Johnny Depp’s yacht

J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, has purchased Hollywood actor Johnny Depp’s grand yacht for around £22million. The 50 year old Brit writer spellbound after seeing the actor’s 156 foot long vessel with three large decks.

Depp, the Pirates of the Caribbean star, spent approximately £5million in renovating the vessel that can accommodate ten guests in 5 cabins as well as 9 crew members. The yacht was named Vajoliroja after Depp’s ex partner Vanessa Paradis as well as their kids Lily-Rose and Jack. After his break up, he renamed it to Amphitrite (named after the Greek sea goddess). 1901 steam yacht set to put on auction

Primrose Potter recalls watching ENA sail across Sydney Harbour when she was a young girl. The great-great-great-grandfather of her daughter was Thomas Dibbs – the yacht’s original owner and the person who actually commissioned ENA in 1900 for Triphena, his wife.

Ms Potter told that Thomas Dibbs used to take the then-governor out on every Sunday. Well, it was really a great way of living that time. She remembered it quite well seeing it go up and down the harbor; she believes that it was a much more gracious life back then. (more…)

Most yachts might pass over Maryland waters without a bay pilot

Very soon, the Maryland waters might see more large yachts under a brand new law passed in Annapolis which is anticipated to be a real boon for the marinas and tourist destinations of the state. This law lets for pleasure boats up to two hundred feet long to sail state waters without an accredited bay pilot. Earlier, the law needed vessels longer than seventy nine feet to hire a pilot.

Believes as an emergency legislation, the new law was signed by Gov. Larry Hogan earlier o Tuesday and it took effect from Wednesday, in time for boating season, said the advocates. Its passage was received well by marina operators from Baltimore and Annapolis, who expect to see more yachts owned as well as chartered by well-heeled make their way into Chesapeake Bay.

Ainslie Promises Never-Seen-Before AmCup Experience In Portsmouth

British sailing hero Ben Ainslie has assured his fans and other yachting enthusiasts of a unique “never-seen-before” experience with AmCup as Portsmouth was declared to host 2 prep races for the 2017 edition of the most prestigious yachting championship.

Portsmouth, which acts as the home ground for Britain Royal Navy, would be staging AmCup events in 2015 July & 2016 July. The events are estimated to cost around 60 million pounds (76 million Euros, 94 million USD) to this English south-coastal city.

Ben has decided to base BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing) in Portsmouth to prepare for tilt in 2017 America’s Cup.

“The previous ACWS can be said to be sort of game changer here in sailing. The championship was quite entertaining & pleased the crowds”, shared Ben. “The latest AC45 catamarans to be used at the upcoming AmCup would be faster & even more thrilling in comparison to those used in previous genre. We assure an incredible event, something that you haven’t seen earlier- come & cheer for us.”
