Financial Conditions Look Bleak

Emirates Team New Zealand is going through a rough period in their career as they are struggling to get the funds for the Volvo Ocean Race and the round the world race for the upcoming season. In an interview with the coach Grant Dalton he agreed that that it was not a good time for the team but was confident about the team’s unity during this time. He also said that participating in such championships is a pride for all the teams and with the team they have they would certainly want to be in the championships this year. He is looking forward to competing in them with his team however the money required to register for this has not yet been collected. The coach has taken the initiative of getting funds for the team but he says that there is still $27 million left to collect so the journey would not be a smooth one for them.

The mountain to climb will be a steep one considering the fact that the team had to change their base recently from Halsey St to Wynyard Quarter in Auckland. This was a big blow to the team because it is always difficult to change the base camp as it involves money and time. But Dalton is still hopeful that things will change soon. The crew for the New Zealand is all set and it is only the money that is keeping the team away. The team will be sponsored by a Spanish footwear company named Camper but the contract will only be for the Volvo Ocean Race and also for the America Cup for this season. The team would be have to get a new contract or extend the contract if they happen to participate in the round the world championship.
